WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF REFLEXOLOGY?
Reflexology has many of the benefits of body massage and can be combined with energy healing techniques to treat the whole person, without the need to undress. During a Reflexology treatment, endorphins are released into the bloodstream, easing aches and pains and promoting a sense of deep relaxation and balance. Reflexology, as with other hands on holistic therapies, stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, slowing the heart rate, reducing blood pressure and allowing proper functioning of the body’s systems. A balanced, relaxed body can heal itself and with the ability to relax comes the confidence of being able to cope.
Reflexology is a healing preventative and maintenance system for the body as well as treating specific conditions to achieve and maintain all round well-being. It not only aids recovery from illness but helps the body to maintain health. It is not necessary to have a ‘symptom’ to benefit from Reflexology.
Giving ourselves the ‘time-out’ to receive a treatment allows for emotional space and can help us to take a ‘step back’ from our world and create a more balanced perspective.
Most people feel a sense of calm, balance, relaxation and feel energised following treatments. Sometimes people can feel lethargic, nauseous, tearful or different emotionally, but this is normal and temporary. This is part of the body’s natural healing process and a sign that the body is responding to the treatment. This is important to feedback to your practitioner to allow them to monitor progress and tailor the treatment for you.
Reflexology is suitable for all ages and has been found to be effective in many areas such as:
- Reducing stress and anxiety
- Fertility and maternity support
- Hormonal rebalance
- Digestive issues
- Migraine and headaches
- Mood balancing
- Sinus congestion
- Back and joint pain
- Cancer support
- Improving blood and lymph circulation
- Restoring and boosting energy
- Sleep disorders
- Sports injuries
After completing a course of treatments, many people find it beneficial to continue with regular treatments to maintain the effects on their health and well-being.
On the first visit, the Reflexology practitioner will carry out a full personal consultation taking into account the person’s past and current health and lifestyle and to check that there are no contra-indications to the treatment. This enables the treatment to be tailored to your individual needs.
In some instance it may be necessary to gain your doctor’s permission before treatment can commence, this will be discussed in the strictest confidence with your practitioner.
As the treatment is performed on the feet, you will be asked to remove your shoes and socks and lie comfortably on a treatment table with supports for your comfort. Your feet will then be cleansed and the practitioner will look for any signs of imbalance on the feet to help tailor the treatment. The practitioner will then use their hands to apply specific pressure points and relaxation techniques to the feet treating specific points that correspond to organs and systems in the body and the treatment usually lasts between 45-60 minutes.
Following a treatment, any significant findings will be discussed with you and the practitioner will offer advice on nutrition, lifestyle and exercise and will explain any future treatments if necessary.
To gain optimal benefits from the treatment, it is important to listen to your body and set aside time to relax. Drinking plenty of water in the 24-48 hours following treatment will help the body to detoxify and flush out toxins.
